LAHORE: 15 March 2026 marks eleven years since one of the most painful tragedies in the history of Christians in Pakistan—the terrorist attacks on two churches in Youhanabad, Lahore. On 15 March 2015, during Sunday worship, two suicide bombers targeted congregations gathered for prayer, turning a sacred moment of devotion into a scene of devastation.
The coordinated attacks struck St. John’s Catholic Church and Christ Church in the Christian neighborhood of Youhanabad, one of the largest Christian communities in Lahore. Worshippers had gathered to pray for their families, their community, and their country when the explosions ripped through the area.
Within moments, the quiet reverence of Sunday worship was shattered by blasts and clouds of smoke. According to reports at the time, at least 15 innocent believers lost their lives, while more than 70 others were injured. The victims were remembered as martyrs by the Christian community, and the attacks left a deep scar not only in Pakistan but also among Christians around the world.
Despite the horror of that day, the people of Youhanabad responded with remarkable courage and faith. Community members stood united, supporting one another and refusing to abandon their places of worship. Their resilience became a powerful symbol of hope and perseverance in the face of violence and intimidation.
Each year on 15 March, the Christian community gathers in churches across Youhanabad to honor the memory of the victims. Special prayers are offered, candles are lit, and families remember their loved ones who lost their lives in the attack. The day has become both a time of mourning and a call for solidarity, peace, and justice.
The tragedy also continues to highlight the challenges faced by religious minorities in Pakistan, emphasizing the urgent need for stronger protections, interfaith harmony, and respect for the right of every person to worship freely and safely.
LEAD Ministries documents persecution and violence against Christians in Pakistan while advocating for religious freedom, pastoral care, and community support. Although the organization does not have the financial resources to directly provide aid to victims, it continues its work through church planting, women’s empowerment programs, and advocacy for vulnerable communities.
On this day of remembrance, LEAD Ministries also pays tribute to the martyrs of Youhanabad and prays for comfort for grieving families, justice for victims, and a future in which Pakistan may grow as a land of peace, love, and mutual respect.
