Kasur:On 23 April,2014,a poor Christian,Saleem Masih, was severely beaten and tortured by his Muslim Landlord. The complaint has been submitted in Saddar Police Station,Kasur against the culprit .The medical report has been got from District Headquarters Hospital Kasur according to legal procedure and now the Fir will be lodged against the culprit and if the FIR will not be lodged on his complaint by the Police Officer of the Concerned Police Station then the petition will be moved in the Court of Session Judge Kasur for the registration of FIR against the culprit.
Saleem has been working for five years with his Muslim landlord,Muhammad Abbas ,whose father is a Headman of Village Bagree of Kasur.Saleem left the work on Easter and came back on his work enjoying two days more as holidays, on this his Master Landlord became furious and beaten him severely. But he was rescued and saved by the intervention of some other Villagers otherwise there was possibility to be beaten him till his death.
The physical torture is not only happened with those who work in fields with their landlords but also with other workers. The brick-kiln workers are also being beaten and tortured by brick-kiln owners, they are forced into bonded labour, denied minimum wages and harassed and implicated in fake cases if they try to resist the oppression of their influential Masters.
“Laws to protect workers already exist, but their implementation is weak,” Gill said. “The government is working on strengthening implementation so workers’ problems and poverty can be reduced.”
We at LEAD are making efforts to support and raise the issue of worker's physical torture and to end poverty. We ask to stand with us and support us in this mission of "No physical torture of workers."We support human dignity and honour without faith and caste based discrimination. We demand 'Equality','Religious Liberty',and 'Rule of Law' without religious discrimination.
