In Mourning, Not in Silence: Christians Demand Justice and an End to Violence After Shahid Masih’s Killing

RAHIMYAR KHAN, LIAQATPUR: The Christian community in Liaqatpur is mourning the tragic death of Shahid Masih, also known as Sadu, while raising a strong and urgent call for justice, accountability, and greater protection for vulnerable Christian citizens.

Shahid Masih, a young Christian resident of the Feroza area of Liaqatpur, was reportedly performing his duties as a watchman during the night when he was allegedly killed by unidentified persons. His death has plunged his family and members of the local Christian community into grief and intensified concerns about the safety of Christians who continue to face vulnerability, harassment, discrimination, and violence in different parts of Pakistan.

The killing has drawn strong condemnation from Christian leaders and community representatives, who have urged the authorities to move swiftly to establish the facts, identify those responsible, and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Pastor Imran Amanat, leader of LEAD Ministries, strongly condemned the alleged murder of Shahid Masih and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a young Christian life.

Pastor Imran Amanat called upon DPO Rahim Yar Khan, the Deputy Commissioner of Rahim Yar Khan, and the Chief Minister of Punjab to take immediate notice of the incident and ensure that the investigation is conducted thoroughly, transparently, and without delay.

He urged law-enforcement authorities to make every possible effort to identify and arrest those responsible and to pursue the case strictly in accordance with the law.

The killing has once again brought the issue of the security and protection of Pakistan’s Christian minority into sharp focus. Christian communities and human-rights advocates have repeatedly called for equal protection under the law and stronger institutional measures to safeguard vulnerable citizens from violence, intimidation, discrimination, and harassment.

For the Christian community, Shahid Masih’s death is not merely another tragic incident. It represents the loss of a young life and has left a grieving family seeking answers, accountability, and justice.

“In mourning, but not in silence,” community members are calling on the authorities to ensure that Shahid Masih’s death does not disappear into a cycle of unanswered cases. They are urging the state to demonstrate that violence against members of religious minorities will be investigated seriously and that every citizen is entitled to equal protection and justice.

The community is also appealing for responsible and peaceful action, emphasizing that justice must be pursued through lawful means and that the dignity of the bereaved family must be respected throughout the investigation.

LEAD Ministries’ Human Rights Advocacy

The killing has also underscored the continuing importance of documenting and reporting cases affecting vulnerable Christian communities in Pakistan.

LEAD Ministries continues to document and raise awareness about cases involving violence, discrimination, bonded labor at brick kilns, and persecution affecting Christians in Pakistan.

Through documentation, human-rights reporting, public awareness, and advocacy, the organization seeks to amplify the voices of vulnerable Christian communities and draw attention to issues that might otherwise remain overlooked.

Its work is centered on promoting justice, religious freedom, human dignity, and equal protection for vulnerable communities, while encouraging greater public awareness of the challenges faced by Pakistan’s Christian population.

For Christian communities living in situations of vulnerability, documentation and public reporting can play an important role in bringing alleged abuses to wider attention and urging relevant institutions to respond through lawful and transparent mechanisms.

As Shahid Masih’s family mourns its loss, the Christian community continues to call for a credible investigation, accountability for those responsible, and meaningful measures to protect vulnerable citizens from violence.

The call from Liaqatpur is clear: mourning must not lead to silence, and justice must not be delayed.
