KAHROR PAKKA, LODHRAN, PUNJAB, PAKISTAN — The death of 18-year-old Christian student Daud following an alleged encounter with police has sparked deep grief and outrage among the local Christian community, with growing calls for justice, accountability and a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Daud, described by community
members as a young student and the only brother of three sisters, reportedly
died after two police officers from City Police Station allegedly took him from
a checkpoint operating in the area under the jurisdiction of Sadar Police
Station and brought him to a nearby canal.
According to eyewitness accounts
provided to community representatives, the officers allegedly subjected Daud to
physical violence before forcing him into the canal. Witnesses said the
teenager struggled in the running water and cried for help as he attempted to
escape.
One particularly serious allegation
is that when Daud tried to get out of the canal, one of the officers allegedly
drew his pistol and threatened to shoot him. A passerby who reportedly
attempted to rescue the teenager was allegedly warned by the officer not to
intervene.
Witnesses said the officers
remained at the scene while Daud continued struggling in the water before
eventually disappearing beneath the surface.
The initial case was reportedly
registered by Sadar Police Station under attempted-murder provisions. Four days
later, after Daud’s body was reportedly recovered approximately five kilometers
downstream, the case was converted into murder charges.
The police officers accused in
connection with the incident have reportedly been arrested. The allegations
remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings, and the evidence must
ultimately establish what occurred and whether those accused bear criminal
responsibility.
A Family’s Future Shattered by the
Loss of Its Only Son
Daud’s death has left his family
facing an unimaginable loss. On 24 August 2026, Daud was laid to rest in the
presence of his grieving parents, three sisters, relatives and members of the
local Christian community.
His parents and three sisters are
now mourning the loss of their beloved son and only brother. At just 18 years
old, Daud’s death has not only taken a young life but has also shattered a
family’s hopes and expectations for his future.
Pastor Imran Amanat, head of LEAD
Ministries, said Daud’s death has devastated an entire family, not merely taken
one life. As the only son and brother, his loss leaves his parents and three
sisters facing years of grief and suffering.
Pastor Amanat said that when
Christians are perceived as defenseless or easy targets, such incidents can
create fear far beyond the victim’s immediate family. He stressed that the loss
of one young Christian can have consequences for an entire generation and
called for justice, accountability and equal protection for vulnerable
Christian families.
The incident has also heightened
concerns within the wider Christian community about the safety of religious
minorities and their confidence in institutions responsible for protecting
citizens.
Christian Community Demands Justice
and Protection
Pastor Imran Amanat, head of LEAD
Ministries, strongly condemned what he described as the alleged killing of Daud
and called for those responsible to be held accountable under the law.
“Justice must be delivered, and the
fear within the Christian community must be removed by ensuring that those
responsible are punished according to law,” Pastor Amanat said.
He also emphasized that police
authority must never be used to intimidate, threaten or terrorize vulnerable
citizens. He called for meaningful accountability and measures to restore a
sense of security among Christians in the area.
LEAD Ministries is calling for a
transparent and impartial investigation into Daud’s death, including a careful
examination of eyewitness testimony, the conduct of the officers involved, the
circumstances surrounding the canal incident and the recovery of Daud’s body.
For the Christian community, the
case represents more than the death of one young student. It has become a wider
call for equal protection, dignity and justice for members of religious
minority communities.
LEAD Ministries’ Advocacy for
Justice
Under the leadership of Pastor
Imran Amanat, LEAD Ministries continues to advocate for persecuted Christians
and other vulnerable communities through legal and human-rights initiatives.
The organization documents cases
involving alleged violence, discrimination, forced conversion, misuse of
blasphemy laws and violations of minority rights, while bringing concerns to
public attention and calling for protection and accountability. Its advocacy
seeks to strengthen the ability of vulnerable individuals and minority families
to pursue justice through lawful mechanisms.
In Daud’s case, the organization is
calling for a credible and impartial process that protects the rights of the
bereaved family and ensures that the circumstances surrounding his death are
fully investigated.
A Call for Transparency and
Accountability
Daud’s death has raised serious
concerns about the use of police authority and the protection of vulnerable
citizens. His family and community leaders are seeking a credible investigation
that establishes the facts and ensures that anyone found responsible is held
accountable under the law.
The investigation should examine
eyewitness accounts, the conduct of the officers involved, the circumstances
surrounding the canal incident and the events leading to the recovery of Daud’s
body.
The reported arrest of the accused
officers is an important step, but the family and community are seeking a
process that is impartial, transparent and capable of establishing the facts
without fear or favour.
For Daud’s grieving parents and
three sisters, justice cannot bring him back. But a thorough investigation can
provide the truth they deserve and ensure that the rule of law applies equally
to everyone.
A Test of Justice and Equal
Protection
The allegations surrounding Daud’s
death raise concerns that extend beyond one family or one community. Police
officers are entrusted with protecting life, maintaining public safety and
enforcing the law. Any credible allegation that such authority was instead used
to threaten or endanger a civilian must be examined with the utmost
seriousness.
If the allegations are proven,
those responsible must face the consequences provided by law. At the same time,
the investigation must respect due process and ensure that responsibility is
determined on the basis of credible evidence.
For Daud’s family, no investigation
can erase the pain of losing their beloved son and only brother. But
authorities can ensure that the truth is established and that anyone found
responsible is held accountable under the law.
For the Christian community, the
demand is clear: Justice for Daud, truth for his family, and equal protection
and dignity for every citizen.
