Martha Bibi, Christian baselessly accused of blasphemy, was released on bail against the payment of 100,000 rupees (around 1,500 US$).by The Honorable Court of Mr.Justice Fazal-e-Miran Chuhan CRL.M.NO.2676/B/2007 ON DATED 30-04-2007.
Brief story about the case: Martha Bibi, who used to live in the village of Kot Nanak Singh, was accused on 22 January last of making derogatory remarks against the Koran and of “defiling the sacred name of the prophet Muhammad”. She was charged under Article 295C of the Pakistani Criminal Code – the notorious “blasphemy law” – that stipulates very heavy punishments (up to the death penalty) for those who offend the Prophet or the sacred texts of Islam.
In reality, according to local witnesses, the charges were brought by Muslim contractors who did not want to pay for materials supplied to a construction site by Bibi and her husband, a bricklayer.
Now the trial is going on and under proceeding in the session court Lahore,in which the right of Cross-examination of Martha bibi was closed and the lawyers of LEAD submitted on dated 18-02-2011 the application for recalling order dated 18-01-2011 whereby cross examination of PWS-3 $ 4 WAS CLOSED.The decision of that application is still pending in Hororable Additional and Session judge Mr.Jawad Ul Hassan Lahore.
On dated 17-10-2011 the Court confiscated the surety bonds in favor of State and also issued the arrest warrants of Martha Bibi.On the same day LEAD's lawyers gave an application to set aside the order of dated 17-10-2011 which was accepted and Martha bibi is now on bail,but the trial is under proceeding and the next date of hearing is 03-01-2011.
